Avatar

Holla this is Ms. Fancy Face, but you can call me Fancy ;) and I would like to start off our blogspot with what i feel is the best movie of 2009 AVATAR. That was hands down the best movie of the year, it was an amazing storyline that included both romance for the ladies and action for the men (great date movie) for those of you looking for a good first date movie lol. However does anyone know exactly how much this movie cost to create well if you didnt i sure as hell am going to tell you, this film cost in excess of 300 million dollars to create its been called one of the most expensive movies of the decade in competiton with "pirates of the carribbean and spider man 3". That is insane apparently we have 300 million dollars to spend on movies but yet we cannot bail out our drownding economy thats some bulls**t! but although i dont agree with the excessive amount of tax payers dollars spent to create it I really REALLY! enjoyed watching it so i guess that makes me a little bit of hypocrite lol

Real life begins now so what im asking is do you think its realistic to spend over 300 million dollars on creating a fictional movie with the sole purpose to entertain when the economy is going under because of a lack of capital?

I also would like to talk about the title of the movie "Avatar" i thought it was a great play on words because originally going into the movie i thought that would be the name of the alien planet but it was actually a clever play on what the "humans" were doing to trick or persuad the indiginous people to allow their sacred land to be raped for capital gain. I loved it!! The use of false representations or masking of identities which is something that happens alot in our day when useing any of our new found social networks facebook, myspace, BBM, twitter etc. There is always a tiny picture that may or may not be the individual, or a representation of the individual that they feel would make them fit in or blend in among the masses life has come to living behind these avatars we create for ourselves whether false or real.

Well folks that's my take on the movie, Now whats yours?

Signed A Curious Fancy.

  1. After hearing weeks of crazy buzz, we decided to make It a ladies night and go watch Avatar one weekend. I expected crazy graphics and effects (based on the commercial) but wasn’t too sure what to expect In terms of the storyline. Earlier In the week I had read a few reviews on the movie calling It "a perfect combination", " a captivating story", but still had to see It for myself to understand the hype.

After I got over the outrage of an additional 3$ charge for some damn 3D glasses, I took a seat and prepared myself mentally for what I was about to see over some pop corn and skittles (extra butter and I love the blue skittles yummy!! OH and I DID NOT pay that extra 3$ by the way)
At first all these mad scientists and army recruits had me a little worried (what am I watching and why are they blue, what’s with the braid and where's her pinky finger?)
Once the movie was over (after what seemed to be forever and a day) I left the theater even more In love than I was when I entered (<3 u babe, even though u didn’t see It with me) and over all compassion for the world In general.

Although the movie was exciting and dramatic and sad and happy and just full of life, the only thing I believe it lacked was ORIGINALITY. I don’t know If you Intend on seeing the movie so I dont wanna ruin the end too much buuuuut, in my opinion Avatar Is nothing more than a modern day $300 Millions Pocahontas movie. The same characters, plot and graphics apply. In the year 2182, John Smith has evolved to Jake Sully, the chief and his wife still as Indigenous as ever, the Willow Tree still holds the same power it did before and Americans are still tryna run shit they have no business medaling in for the "greater good" of themselves. We were sold on graphics and visuals but were enchanted by a classic story. Anyone with a pulse and a childhood should have been able to enjoy the movie and gain a sense of closeness with nature itself.

On our way out of he theater, the 3$ 3D version had still been running because it screened 1 hour after ours did. We were so intrigued with the story we had no choice but to do the unthinkable. We **ehemm “borrowed” 3D glasses out of the recycling bin and snuck in to watch the end of the movie…in 3D!!!!!!!!!! BOOM BAMM was it ever exciting (and for some reason the music sounded better…weird!!?!??) but you could see and feel the ashes from the burning tree (oops it slipped out) and their tails flickers, it was captivating!! I felt like doing a Native bird call on my way out and flying away on my dinosaur looking Peacock bird friend thing.

Exhale! Big Movie, I’d hit it again! One time!
